how to remove wood stain that will not dry

How to fix sticky wood stain. wood stain is designed to penetrate into the grain of the wood, not to remain on the surface. if you happen to spread it too thickly, or you forget to wipe off excess. To remove wood stain, start by using a paintbrush to apply a thick layer of stain stripper to the wood. then, let it sit for 20 minutes, reapplying the stain stripper every few minutes to any spots that look dry.. To help dry the stain, turn on a fan to remove moisture out of the air. more humid the room, the longer it takes to dry. i've also used fast drying polyurethane varnish to seal the stain and help it to dry quickly. the varnish can be applied over the tacky stain. and will dry clear. i did 2 coats on a banister within an hour..
